In case you have a spider problem, the guide below is ideal for you!
NATURAL REPELLENTS FOR SPIDERS
Instead of using toxic chemicals in the house, opt for natural repellents to keep spiders out of your house forever!
1. KEEP IT CLEAN
The best way to keep spiders at bay is to keep the house clean. Even though sweeping and vacuuming the floors requires effort, it is definitely worth it. It is recommended to do a seasonal cleaning on a regular basis as it doesn’t have to be spring to do a thorough cleaning.
Once you are done with the inside of your home, move to the outside. This refers to removing any lawn clippings, sticks and leaves, checking the doors and windowsills for gaps and repair them, cleaning the windows, and keeping the balcony clutter-free and clean.
2. WHITE VINEGAR
Vinegar can be used for many things, such as a part of a homemade cleaning solution for the windows. It has a very strong smell which is known to repel ants, mosquitoes and spiders. All you have to do is to mix 1-parr vinegar with 2 parts water in a spray bottle and spray around the house, especially on the windows, doors, and vents.
3. PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL
Spiders simply cannot stand the smell of this minty herb! To make a homemade repellent spray, take a spray bottle, fill it with water, and add some liquid dish soap and 8 drops of peppermint essential oil. Check the smell of the solution and in case it doesn’t smell minty enough add 8 drops more. Shake the bottle well and spray around the house.
You can also mix both peppermint and vinegar as these ingredients come together nicely and create a potent spider repellent.
Cedar is the perfect remedy for spiders hanging around the inside of the closets! All you have to do is to put cedar blocks in closets and cupboards! Using cedar hangers for your clothes is also a good idea as it keeps the home both moth-free and spider-free.
Did you know that citrus fruits also repel spiders? If you have a lemon essential oil at home, use it like the peppermint oil above. If not, you can simply take the peels from citrus fruits and run them on areas where spiders usually appear.
6. CHESTNUTS ( AND OTHER TREE NUTS)
Even though the reason why chestnuts, horse chestnuts, and walnuts repel and kill spiders is still unclear, they have been long used to repel spiders in the U.K. Simply put a few chestnuts in the windowsills and let them kill off these pests.
