Nothing pleases us more than the bed at home which awaits us to take a rest after a long and weary day at work, running on all sides, standing on your feet for at least 5-6 hours. Many people find their sleeping rooms to be their sanctuaries, their temples where they can relax, rest and be at complete peace.
That’s where we spend most of our time. Averagely, a person should sleep at least 8 hours a day, so according to this fact, we are passing about a third of our lives sleeping.
Nothing can replace nighttime sleep and nocturnal peace. It is vital to maintain our health and well-being, mentally and physically. The position in which we find ourselves when we sleep is also very significant and affects our health.
People prefer many different ways of sleeping. The most common seems are either the left or the right side, on your back, and curled up in fetal position. Every position affects your health in different ways that can be either good or bad. For example, sleeping on the back can be dangerous for people who have asthma and/or sleep apnea. It increases the risks associated with breathing difficulties. On the other hand, sleeping on the right side can aggravate digestive problems and end up making them a lot worse. These negative effects and issues lead to lower quality sleep, but also less amounts of it.
Sleeping on the left side is still the position far better than all of the other sleep positions in terms of the benefits it has on our bodily health. It can help us digest better and easier. It improves the overall digestive system by allowing the body to extract nutrients and dispose of toxins faster and more efficiently, but it also affects our circulation and cardiovascular health because the heart is better able to pump downhill and the blood circulates more efficiently back to the heart.
This left side position also allows for bile and wastes to travel more freely through the body and helps improve spleen function. It results in having a better lymphatic drainage and more toxins leaving the body, with less overall stress and negative impacts to our health. It’s incredible how much of a difference the position that you sleep in can have on your body.
Try to make the switch as soon as possible if you are not sleeping on your left side already. Every one of us has a habitual, preferred way of sleeping and it can be very hard to break that habit, but it is possible to change using several minor adjustments. Train your body to sleep on the left side by switching on a light that’s located on the right side of where you sleep. Your body will naturally want to face away from the light source and you’ll turn on to the left side. People have already used numerous other ways to effectively change sleep positions. You just have to find out which one will likely work for you.
