A chemical which is found in condoms and pacifiers, possibly causing cancer, according to the world health experts.
The World Health Organization WHO argues that the substance MBT (2-Mercaptobenzothiazole) is present in a large number of rubber products that include condoms, pacifiers, rubber gloves, rubber bands and tires for cars.
At a meeting in Lyon, France, 24 experts agreed that there is sufficient evidence that this chemical should be listed into the encyclopedia of carcinogens.
However, they claim that the public should not be worried, but factory workers are in greater danger.
Professor Hans Kromhout, a member of the committee that investigated the chemical, shows that the public is exposed to a small amount of MBT’s, through the skin or air. It is associated with cancer of the bladder, bowels and blood, but not the only guilty for these health conditions.
