Japan Has a 66% Lower Breast Cancer Rate Than U.S. Just Because of This Nutrient

This difference is also because the Western diet is iodine deficient. And in their diets, Americans get iodine only from salt. But lately women started to avoid salt which leads them to an increase in iodine deficiency rates.

Environmental toxins can be another factor that contributes to iodine deficiency. Toxins tend to attach to receptors in the cells that are meant for iodine and shutting them out and preventing the body from absorbing it.


Because our body is not capable of producing iodine, we need to find natural sources from which we can consume it. Sources like that are cranberries, navy beans, unpeeled potatoes, eggs, and seafood like tuna, shrimp, salmon, and lobster.

The main source of iodine in Japanese diet is seaweed. You can buy dried seaweed at Asian supermarkets and larger chains. Add the dried seaweed to cooked soups, stews, beans, and many other dishes.

According to some studies, seaweed has ten times more iodine and is more effective against breast cancer than fluorouracil, chemo drug.
